The Projects Mangia, Inc. Supports

Tomato for Research. “Good for You, Good for the Environment”

Mangia, Inc. in collaboration with ANICAV (National Association of Industrial Vegetable Food Preserves) and RICREA (National Consortium for the Recycling and Recovery of Steel Packaging), supports research on pediatric cancers promoted by the Umberto Veronesi Foundation through the initiative “The tomato for research”. It is a fundraising campaign that transforms a simple purchase of canned tomatoes into a economic concrete aid in the fight against childhood cancer.

Since 2003, the funds raised have contributed to the PALM project, dedicated to the study of acute myeloid leukemia in children, supporting the experimentation of new therapies and innovative protocols. The initiative has had an important impact both in scientific research and in public awareness.

Alternaria Alternata

Mangia, Inc. supports the research of the University of Naples Federico II on the saprophytic mold Alternaria Alternata whose spores are a source of airborne allergens. Exposure to Alternaria is associated with an increased risk of asthma, respiratory allergies, and food sensitization. Research focuses on the role of alternating blood on the immune response and in the production of inflammation. Although it is recognized as an important cause of childhood asthma, many immunologic mechanisms still remain unclear. Future studies point to better diagnosis, prevention and targeted therapeutic formulations.
